NEWS: EU Food Labelling: revision of rules for alcoholic beverages

News from AAFC’s Market Access Secretariat

We would like to inform you about the EU Roadmap & Initial Impact Assessment (IIA) for the revision of labelling rules related to alcoholic beverages. This initiative is intended to complement the revision of EU rules on food information to consumers, following up on Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. As with other EU labelling revisions and initiatives on the horizon, this one is also being linked to a critical priority in the EU’s Farm to Fork Strategy human health action items.

It will include rules on  the labelling alcoholic beverages, stipulating a mandatory list of ingredients and a nutrition declaration. The comment period for this Roadmap is open until July 22, 2021. Industry is encouraged to submit feedback as it will be used by the European Commission for further development and refining future initiatives, which will ultimately take the form of a new EU Regulation.

In order to inform the Government of Canada’s position, we would appreciate if you could share any submitted feedback with the Market Access Secretariat at: aafc.mas-sam.aac@agr.gc.ca
