On April 14, 2026, the safeguard trigger level for Canadian chilled pork (10,496 MT – 2026) under the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA) was reached. As a result, Korean importers are now subject to a safeguard duty of 9% (from 1.7%) for the remainder of the calendar year.
All tariffs and safeguard measures on pork products will be eliminated in 2028, with the exception of other frozen pork cuts for which safeguard measures were eliminated in 2020. Please note however that the belly cut (streaky pork) of frozen pork remains subject to safeguard measures until 2027.
