Jul 27, 2026 On July 24, Canada and Ecuador officially signed the Canada-Ecuador Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
This signature marks an important milestone in Canada’s efforts to diversify trade and create new opportunities for Canadian businesses. It also reflects Canada and Ecuador’s shared commitment to strengthening their trade and investment relationship and bringing the agreement into force as soon as possible.
Ecuador is Canada’s sixth-largest merchandise trading partner in South America, with two-way merchandise trade reaching $2 billion in 2025, a 2.9% increase from the previous year.
The Agreement delivers significant benefits for Canada’s agriculture and agri-food sector by advancing key trade interests and creating new opportunities for Canadian producers and food processors to diversify export markets.
Ecuador will provide preferential access for key Canadian agricultural exports, including grains and oilseeds, cereals, meat, pulses, processed foods, and sugar-containing products. Canada also successfully protected its supply-managed sectors, ensuring no additional market access commitments for dairy, poultry, and eggs.
Following the signing of the agreement, Canada and Ecuador will each complete their respective domestic ratification processes. The FTA will enter into force after ratification procedures are complete. To review the full agreement please visit Canada-Ecuador FTA.
