The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) wishes to draw your attention to WTO SPS Notification G/SPS/N/TUR/164, notified by Türkiye on October 7, 2026. Please see below.
As of January 1, 2027, any phytosanitary treatment applied to a shipment, including fumigation, will be required to be recorded on the phytosanitary certificate. To facilitate CFIA endorsement of the treatment on the certificate prior to export, exporters must provide appropriate evidence that the treatment has been completed.
Please note that fumigation is not a mandatory import requirement for Türkiye. However, when fumigation or another phytosanitary treatment is applied, including as a contractual requirement between the exporter and buyer, Türkiye requires that the treatment is supported by appropriate documentation and recorded on the phytosanitary certificate.
We encourage stakeholders exporting to Türkiye to review this new requirement and ensure that the necessary documentation is available in advance of export.
For the most up-to-date information on export requirements, exporters should contact their local CFIA office prior to export to confirm applicable requirements and certification procedures. CFIA’s network of local offices can be found here: Contact the CFIA by telephone – inspection.canada.ca
