Oct 6, 2025 The Market Access Secretariat at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has informed us of two recent regulatory developments in the United States:
- On September 15, 2025, the Agricultural Marketing Service proposed to revise seven (7) U.S. grade standards for canned tomato products, including updating the colour sections in the grade standards and making various editorial changes. The deadline to file either electronic or written comments is 11:59PM EDT on November 14, 2025 (Docket).
- On September 22, 2025, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) finalized procedures to claim limited reduced tax rates and tax credits for imported alcohol products. The final rule clarifies two (2) key points:
- Only the foreign producer of the distilled spirits, wine, or beer may assign the applicable tax benefits to U.S. importers.
- The deadline for foreign producers to submit these assignments to TTB has been extended by one calendar quarter (Docket).
