The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has renegotiated the certificate for the export of pet food and pet treats to Mexico. An addendum to the certificate has been developed to provide additional space for listing the products intended for export, as SENASICA now requires the inclusion of packaging, processing or storage dates, as well as the best before date, on the certificate.
Mexico now authorizes the use of bovine meals of Canadian origin or those legally imported into Canada in the manufacture of pet food. In both cases, the meals must originate from rendering facilities approved by SENASICA.
The Guideline for preparing export certificates for the Canadian pet food industry will be updated shortly to reflect this change.
